Georgina Spelvin's Porn Star Biography
Texas Dancing Girl
Georgina Spelvin was born on March 1, 1936 in Houston, Texas. She spent her school years virtually always on the road with her parents; her dad was a geophysicist in Texas. Her mom managed to find a dancing school for her daughter in just about every small town in Texas they visited. After graduation (National Honor Society) she began her professional career as a chorus girl in New York and was featured in the Broadway productions of Guys and Dolls, Sweet Charity, and The Pajama Game. Her first film was the 1957 Radley Metzger's lesbian softcore classic The Twilight Girls, where she bared her tits on camera for the first time. But her first plunge into hardcore was done 15 years and several softcore movies later.
A Sex Star is Born
In the early 70s, Spelvin realized that she was not destined for stardom on the dancing stage, so she started to pursue opportunities in theatre and filmmaking. In 1973 a friend, adult film actor Harry Reems, recommended her to adult film director Gerard Damiano. Hired initially as a cook, Spelvin was promoted to the starring role of old spinster Justine Jones in Gerard's next movie, the now infamous and celebrated film, The Devil in Miss Jones. The movie was an astounding success, and she became a real porn star. In fact, she adopted her stage name, Georgina Spelvin, for this particular movie. In 1974, Spelvin and Harry Reems reunited in another award winning classic, The Wet Rainbow.
Career & Notable Films
After permanently moving to California and making a few more adult films, Spelvin started to supplement her acting career with stage performances as a stripper. In 1977, she finally got the opportunity to work with the legendary John Holmes. Director Bob Chinn brought them together in the Johnny Wadd installment, Jade Pussycat. Spelvin was cast in the role of the dangerous villain Alexandra. In 1978, she got a role of the roaring 20s socialite in Armand Weston's big budget feature film Take Off. The movie was loosely based upon Oscar Wilde's book The Picture of Dorian Gray. In 1981 she starred in another classic, Anthony Spinelli's The Dancers, opposite to her good friend Richard Pacheco. Her last big role on East Coast was again Justine Jones, in The Devil in Miss Jones 2, a comedy-like sequel to the original classic.
Love Life in Porn
In early 70s, Spelvin became involved in a romantic relationship with Judith Hamilton (AKA Clair Lumiere), who performed with Spelvin in such adult features as The Devil in Miss Jones, Mount of Venus, and Sleepy Head. The couple moved to California in 1975 but eventually parted ways. In 1975, Spelvin gave an arresting performance in Robert McCallum's 3 A.M., which featured a scene with Judith in a small supporting role. Georgina Spelvin played Kate, a woman secretly in love with her brother-in-law Mark.
Life after Porn
Georgina Spelvin retired from the adult industry in 1983, at age 47. She appeared in over 60 movies and loops. While rehearsing a local play, she met John Welsh, who later became her husband. Spelvin's primary source of income was her job as desktop publisher for the L.A. County Medical Association. Occasionally, she continued to accept straight acting opportunities on the side. She got small parts in mainstream classics such as Police Academy (1984) and Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986). In 2005 she made a non-sex cameo appearance in Paul Thomas' New Devil in Miss Jones. In May 2008, she published her autobiography, The Devil Made Me Do It, and appeared on camera in a short web clip announcing its release on the internet.
